Ronny Chieng

Ronny Chieng is a Chinese stand-up comedian and actor born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, raised in Malaysia, USA and Singapore, who graduated from the University of Melbourne in Australia in 2009 with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce.

Ronny started performing comedy in Melbourne in 2009. Since then he has toured 5 sold out global stand up comedy theatre tours worldwide. He made his US television debut on the “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” in 2015 and was personally invited to open for Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr on their Australian Tours.

2015 saw Ronny move to New York City after being hired as a correspondent on the Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Comedy Central. He also lost 11kg but that was unrelated to comedy.

In 2016 he also co-created,co-wrote and starred in his own TV comedy “Ronny Chieng: International Student” on ABC (Australia), it has since been picked up by Comedy Central in US & Asia, CBC in Canada and BBC in the UK.

That year he was also included on the prestigious list of “Variety’s 10 Comics To Watch” at Just For Laughs Montreal.

Ronny made his big screen debut in the worldwide hit Warner Bros. film “Crazy Rich Asians” based off the best-selling book by Kevin Kwan then followed this up by co-starring role in Amazon’s Bliss, led by Salma Hayek & Owen Wilson.

In 2019 Ronny released his debut Netflix Stand-up Comedy Special “Asian Comedian Destroys America!”. He has since signed a deal for three more Comedy projects with Netflix.

In 2021 Ronny returned to stage and screen. His rescheduled tour “Hope You Get Rich” traveled across the USA, we saw the release of TV shows “Doogie Kamealoha MD” and “Young Rock” and made his Marvel debut in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”.

2022 Ronny is still touring with his live stand up tour “Hope You Get Rich” across Australia and the USA.
